Dear NetworkIrlande Members,

NetworkIrlande and the France Ireland Chamber of Commerce are delighted to announce the winners of the Irish France Business Awards 2019 in this newsletter. A record number of applications were received this year which is a very positive indicator of the Franco-Irish business dynamic. The awards will be presented at a gala dinner on November 28th, more details and registration below.

In this edition you can also catch up on our 'Brexit – Challenges and Opportunities for Ireland' event on September 27th which was so popular that there was only standing room left on the evening. Tony Connelly himself enjoyed the event and the Q&A immensely and has promised to come back to us again when the opportunity arises.

Winners of the Ireland France Business Awards 2019

NetworkIrlande and the France Ireland Chamber of Commerce are pleased to announce the winners of the Ireland France Annual Business Awards 2019.

The Jury was chaired by Eoin Scott (Motherboard) and composed of Elaine Howley (Market Advisor Digital Technologies, Enterprise Ireland, France), Isabelle Charmeil (Director, Business France Ireland), Kate Solovieva (Vice President, Financial Services - Europe, IDA Ireland), Paul de Vos (Chef du Service Economique, Ambassade de France en Irlande), Noel Cunningham (Senior Partner, Mazars, Ireland), Donal O'Riain (Founder and Managing Director, Ecocem, Ireland), Monica MacLaverty (Manager Southern Europe, Tourism Ireland, Ireland), Joanne Grant (Managing Director, JCDecaux, Ireland) and Gillian Quinn de Shonen (Managing Director, Zumo, France).

The Jury was very impressed by the quality of this year's entrants and by the unprecedented number of applications submitted. (List of applicants)
 

THE AWARD WINNERS 2019

Smurfit Kappa has won the award for the Best Irish Company in France
The runners-up are Icon PLC (1) and BHSL Group & Klas Telecom (tied for 2nd runner-up).

Sodexo has won the award for the Best French Company in Ireland
Runners-up are Veolia (1) and DPD Ireland (2).

Kingspan has won the special award for Impact on Climate Change
The runner-up is Veolia.

The winners will receive their Awards at a ceremony and Gala Dinner in France on Thursday 28th November at Cercle National des Armées, Paris. Contact business-awards@networkirlande.com to register.

 

 

Brexit - Challenges and Opportunities for Ireland

NetworkIrlande in conjunction with Arbitration Ireland and the International Chamber of Commerce Ireland organised a presentation on 'Brexit – Challenges and Opportunities for Ireland' at the Embassy of Ireland, Paris on Thursday September 26th. Full article here

Tourism Ireland scoops Number One place at travel awards ceremony in France
 

Tourism Ireland has been voted the number one tourist board for best use of social media in France.

The award ceremony – organised by We Like Travel, an agency specialising in social media and travel – took place at IFTM (International French Travel Market) Top Résa in Paris, the largest travel trade exhibition in France, which is taking place this week. Tourism Ireland came in first place in the "best overseas destination on social media" category – ahead of 100 other destinations, including Mauritius at number two and VisitBritain at number three. The criteria by which the tourist boards were evaluated included social media strategy, presence and performance on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Innovation pushes Dublin into Top 10 next-generation global business hubs

Dublin's importance as a global hub for business is increasing significantly, according to a highly regarded annual report by leading management consulting company AT Kearney. The 2019 Global Cities Report indicated that while New York, London and Paris remain the world's most competitive cities, their dominance is being increasingly challenged by advances across Europe, Asia and the Middle East – and made special mention of the impressive progress made by Dublin.

The Global Cities Report ranks the world's major cities on their attractiveness for businesses and employees, It includes the Global Cities Outlook Index, which ranks cities primed to be the next generation of global hubs. Dublin featured highly in 2019's Outlook Index, jumping a huge 24 places to ninth position, behind London, Singapore, San Francisco, Amsterdam, Paris, Tokyo, Boston and Munich.

EirGrid Welcomes Celtic Interconnector Funding Decision

EirGrid has welcomed today's decision by the European Commission to provide €530 million of funding to the Celtic Interconnector, a high-voltage electricity cable linking Ireland and France.

The decision follows the submission in June of an application for funding by project developers EirGrid and its French counterpart Réseau de Transport d'Electricité (RTE). The two companies submitted the application under the Commission's 2019 Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) Energy Programme.

Global Update: Never a dull moment!

Over the course of the last three months the topics of concern for investors fell into two categories - politics (the US/China trade dispute, Brexit, European elections) and interest rates (future direction of central banks globally and the shape of the US government bond yield curve). Some might argue that it was because of the former that the latter became all the more important. Either way we witnessed an increase in market volatility over the period as elevated investor complacency, borne from a belief that central banks would 'do the right thing' no matter what, gave way to the realisation that a deteriorating economic outlook, driven predominantly by trade issues, had taken hold.
